Because it was the long weekend, Keith and I decided to go to Ottawa to visit some friends and family. He had an extra day off, and I haven't taken time off for quite a while, so we decided that this would be a great weekend to get away. Ottawa was a great destination because Winterlude was on. I must admit, we had a great time skating on the canal (something I had always wanted to do), eating "Beavertails" and Maple Taffy (Maple Syrup on a stick), and admiring the vast amount of ice sculptures, which were incredible to see. I highly recommend going if you want to have a short vacation!
While in Ottawa, we also had some time to visit the War Museum. It was quite fascinating and gives you even more of an admiration for what those brave men and women have gone through. Then,on our way home, once we were about to hit Trenton we noticed lights flashing. Initially we thought there was an accident, then we realized there were people standing on the bridge with flags...one of our fallen soldiers had come home, and they were there to pay their respects. I was astonished as we kept driving and almost every bridge (with the exception of 2) had people and/or emergency vehicles on them. When you see people do things as simple as paying their respects to a soldier they may not have known, it definitely moves you and makes you proud to be a Canadian.
