One thing I love about warm weather is Saturday morning walks down to the Cambridge Farmers' Market. Because the weather was so beautiful this past weekend, we walked downtown instead of taking the car as we do in winter. Keith really wanted pancakes for breakfast, since he says he associates them with spring (I think its because someone said the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival was on) but I suggested we go to Wesley United for Apple Dumplings. Jason Dykstra (@jasondyk if you have twitter), a friend of mine who is a mediator, mentioned apple dumplings a week or two ago. I had a craving for them ever since. It was the first time Keith had them, and since he is a 'pie guy' he was in heaven. The dumplings never disappoint!
Afterward our dumplings, we went to the Market to buy our groceries. I love the Cambridge market because it has everything you need, especially as the warm weather comes and the food starts growing in the fields. You always run into people you know, the vendors are friendly and helpful, and you get to support local farmers! I realize that not everyone can walk to the market, however it is definitely worth the drive. The quality of the food is exceptional and it is becoming increasingly important to support local farmers.
I encourage you, if you do not go to the market regularly, to try doing so. Make a morning out of it, visit some of the shops downtown (we checked out the used book store on the corner). It helps you realize how unique Cambridge really is and makes you appreciate living here so much more!
